THE EMBER SUITE
The Ember Suite
A primary suite remodel, designed and built by Discrete Designs.
The clients of this primary suite remodel are travelers who seek beauty, quiet, and intention wherever they go. They came to us with a clear yet deeply personal vision: they wanted their primary suite to evoke the feeling of arriving somewhere exceptional, without ever leaving home. A calm, layered comfort with a sense that everything has been carefully considered. Like the last light of a perfect evening, it needed to be warm, unhurried, and worth looking forward to coming home to.
The Bathroom
With its oversized jetted tub, dated Jetson-style shower, and awkward vanity placement, the original bathroom’s disjointed layout caused constant friction and elevated blood pressure. Now the open layout with soft tactile finishes and layered lighting creates a calm atmosphere with a personalized experience and room enough for two.
The floor lights tucked into the shower base and beneath the freestanding tub cast a soft glow that dances beautifully against glossy tile, which we laid in a deliberate ombré pattern. Backlit mirrors integrate seamlessly beneath transom windows that offer both natural light and privacy. Additional accent lighting at the base of the rift white oak vanity guides the way. This intentionally layered lighting with customized dimmability allows for a gentle transition at the beginning and end of each day.
The curbless walk-in shower offers wall-mount, handheld, and overhead rain options, so a spa ritual is always within reach. Heated floors extend the sensory experience: warmth underfoot on cold mornings, and a quiet practicality in drying water after a shower. The custom vanity was designed to support each user with custom drawers sized specifically for hair tools, integrated outlets, and organization to hold specific products, all within reach, so that nothing has to live on the counter.
The Bedroom
With the bedroom, we reduced the footprint which allowed us to create intimacy and add much-needed storage to the home. We were able to add a foyer closet and an additional walk-in closet for the primary suite. We also removed the oversized, unused gas fireplace. The bedroom now holds the suite's boldest and most tender moments. Adding subtle drama, the sculptural pendants drop delicately from the ceiling. The faceted light glows like suspended embers against the rich wood feature wall designed to perfectly frame a custom, sumptuous upholstered bed. Keeping any harsh glares at bay, the motorized shades rise and fall at set times throughout the day. The fireplace wall offers one of the room's more quietly powerful moments with a subtly textured tile that rewards a second look, and a flame that can be ignited any time of day and appreciated year-round.
The Closets
Separate his-and-hers closets allow space to hold the project's most personal details. And because these clients travel often, a compact-sized washer and dryer allow them to unpack directly from their suitcases, a small but meaningful detail that makes coming home feel like a true arrival, not a chore.
This project was always about one thing: understanding how two people live, what frustrates and calms them, then building a space that rises: warmly, quietly, completely to meet them there. From the first 3D rendering to the last robe hook, every decision was made in close collaboration with our clients, so the suite they imagined is now the one they long to come home to.
Our clients told us that they no longer wake up in luxury hotels wishing for more, but instead realize that nowhere else quite compares to what they have at home.
